Joram S. Altman, Architect (JSAA) is a small practice located in both San Francisco and Sebastopol, California. The firm specializes in residential and commercial projects including master planning, new construction, remodeling, and additions. The firm's philosophy is to create long-lasting buildings that meet the needs of clients, fit well in the environment, and are energy-efficient, cost-effective, and practical to build.

Joram Altman started the practice in 1984, while he was working full time at Esherick Homsey Dodge and Davis (EHDD). He began as a staff architect in 1974 and advanced to Principal in 1990.  In 2004, Joram retired from his position at EHDD in order to devote full time to his smaller practice, where he is able to provide personal, hands-on design services to his clients.

He strives to look at each project on its own merits, with a fresh approach, and create spaces and facilities that respond to the users' needs.  Joram brings to his residential practice extensive experience on a large range of EHDD projects from research labs, multi-family residential complexes, and historic renovations, to new construction with prefabricated components.

The firm’s current emphasis incorporates sustainable and energy efficiency practices.  Our projects strive to provide zero net energy use to reduce building carbon footprint and lower our client’s annual utility costs.  We work in collaboration with Engineering350 to model our client’s buildings and develop an energy use strategy that optimizes efficiency and overall costs.  We also can assist clients in obtaining green financing for qualified projects in Sonoma County.  If interested, please inquire at JSAA.
